Why I built LocalAlpha
I have spent my career deciding which housing markets are worth betting on. For about nine years I managed a workforce-housing portfolio that grew past 13,000 units, eventually as Director of Asset Management, and today I lead business intelligence at Rent Butter, where we underwrite and screen multifamily and manufactured-housing deals across the country.
What always struck me is that the data that tells you whether a market is healthy is almost entirely public. For years I pulled it out of Redfin, the Census, the BLS, and a dozen other government feeds by hand, building the kind of analysis the pros use to decide where to put millions.
